NETFISH crossed 10,000 programmes

NETFISH has successfully executed more than 10,000 awareness programmes since its inception in 2007. NETFISH designed its activity on a three tier system by (i) Giving a variety of training programmes repeatedly in selected places as an effort to change the mindset of people (ii) Practical demonstration of different aspects of hygienic handling of fish and conservation by organizing coastal cleanup programmes, mass boat cleanup programmes, biodiversity day celebrations etc. with the cooperation of member NGOs, stakeholders and Govt. officials (iii) Meetings and discussions with various concerned Government agencies like Harbour Engineering Department, State fisheries department, NFDB to develop infrastructural facilities at harbors and landing centers. NETFISH is liaised with State as well as National level extension agencies to network and implement its goal much effectively.

Campaign to eliminate the use of bamboo baskets from fishing harbours

With a view to eliminate the use of bamboo baskets in fishing harbours to handle fish, NETFISH organises a national level campaign to educate the fishermen on the adverse effects of bamboo baskets in fish handling. In-order to persuade the fishermen to use plastic baskets NETFISH supplies plastic baskets free of coat in selected harbours in various maritime states.

"Well Begun is Half Done"- campaign to keep fishing vessels clean

NETFISH starts a campaign titled Well Begun is Half Done to make the fishermen aware of the importance of keeping fishing vessels clean and handling fish hygienically on board fishing vessels. Since the fishing vessels are the starting point at which the handling starts utmost care should be taken to handle fish scientifically to avoid spoilage. So well begun at the fishing vessels will reduce the risk of spoilage comparatively and give good return to fishermen.

National level workshop
